In addition, the Mathews County Building Department administers the Mathews County Floodplain Management Ordinance, and maintains the county floodplain maps (FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps).

The Mathews County Building Department is also here to answer questions and assist with interpretations of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and the Mathews County Flood Plain Management Ordinance.

All permit applications can be found on the applications and forms page for the Building Department. This page also has: an outline describing the permit process; direct links to the State Building Code, Virginia USBC; and various other forms & guides. In addition, this page contains various policies related to the Virginia USBC.
